Opera singer (lyric tenor). From 2016 to 2018, he was a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre. Since 2018, he has been a soloist at the Moscow Novaya Opera Theatre named after E. V. Kolobov. In 2020, he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival, and in 2021, at La Scala in Milan. Since 2022, he has been a soloist at the Berlin State Opera.
Born on December 7, 1989, in the city of Torez, Donetsk region. He studied at the Kyiv Institute of Music named after Reinhold Glière (class of Nikolai Gorbatov and Tamara Koval, 2012) and at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine (class of Professor Alexander Dyachenko, 2013).
From 2013 to 2015, he was an artist at the Bolshoi Theatre's Young Opera Program, during which he performed roles by Mozart ("Mozart and Salieri"), the Holy Fool ("Boris Godunov"), Kai ("The Story of Kai and Gerda"), and Vladimir Igorevich ("Prince Igor"). In February 2014, he made his debut in a new production of "The Tsar's Bride" under Gennady Rozhdestvensky and went on tour with the Bolshoi Theatre (Vienna – Hong Kong – New York).
In October 2015, his star-making debut took place as Lensky in "Eugene Onegin" – in Dmitry Chernyakov's legendary production conducted by Alexander Vedernikov.
In 2017, Bogdan Volkov became the first performer of the role of Prince Myshkin in Mieczysław Weinberg's opera "The Idiot" at the Bolshoi Theatre, and then made his debut as Tsar Berendey in "The Snow Maiden". In April 2018, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Tybalt ("Romeo and Juliet") under the baton of Plácido Domingo.
The role of Myshkin proved fateful for Volkov. Seven years later, in 2024, he performed the role of Myshkin again at the Salzburg Festival – in Krzysztof Warlikowski's production, which critics called "a historic event."
